Eric Hilton – “L’Ocean”

Eric Hilton has shared a new single, “L’Ocean”, off his upcoming album “Midnight Ragas” out June 20th via Montserrat House Music.

The music video for “L’Ocean” was directed, filmed and edited by Puma Ptah.

A press release was shared with this to say about the album: “‘Midnight Ragas’ is a new album by the downtempo electronic music producer, with vocal contributions by longtime collaborators Natalia Clavier and Puma Ptah, along with newer recruit Kristina Westernik-Dandridge. And while the tracks are all new Eric Hilton recordings, the album sounds like a killer compilation record, with shifting tempos, moods, vocalists, and languages across twelve tracks. The vintage age of mix CDs may be long over, but listen to Midnight Ragas and you’ll think it never left.”

Eric Hilton added this: “I loved compilations back in the day. You bought them to get turned on to new sounds, or you liked the artist compiling it. ‘Midnight Ragas’ was not conceptualized as a compilation; the album is a moment of eclecticism.”

Kim Gordon – “Bye Bye 25!”

Kim Gordon has shared the song, “Bye Bye 25!”, as an anti-Trump protest song. Also, proceeds from the sale of “Bye Bye 25!” will be donated to reproductive rights nonprofit Noise for Now.

The video for the song was co-directed by Kim Gordon and Vice Cooler. And it has Gordon in black and white showcasing her lyrics and walking through a construction area.

Kim Gordon shared this about the song: “Justin Raisen (producer) had this idea to redo ‘Bye Bye’ starting at the end of the song. When I was thinking of lyric ideas, it occurred to me to use words taken from a site that had all the words that Trump has essentially banned, meaning any grant or piece of a project or proposal for research that includes any of those words would be immediately disregarded or “cancelled.” I guess Trump does believe in cancel culture, because he is literally trying to cancel culture.”

Jehnny Beth – “Obsession”

Jehnny Beth has shared the second single, “Obsession”, off her upcoming album “You Heartbreaker, You” out August 29th via Fiction Records.

The video for the song was directed by Johnny Hostile and Jehnny Beth.

Jehnny Beth shared this about the song: “‘Obsession’ is the first song Johnny and I wrote together for this album. The lyrics ‘you heartbreaker, you’ gave the title to the album but, more than that, the song gave the album its tone. It is probably one of the most detailed tracks on the record. The song obviously deals with the subject of primal obsession. It has this spiralling repetitive tension to the point of explosion, going from a whispered confession to a gnarly scream in the blink of an eye, which was fun to make, imagine Tricky and Jonathan Davis making a song with Adam Jones from Tool! In my head anyway.”

Shame – “Cutthroat”

Shame have shared the first single, “Cutthroat”, off their upcoming album by the same name out September 5th via Dead Oceans.

TRACKLIST:
1. Cutthroat
2. Cowards Around
3. Quiet Life
4. Nothing Better
5. Plaster
6. Spartak
7. To and Fro
8. Lampião
9. After Party
10. Screwdriver
11. Packshot
12. Axis of Evil

The video was directed by Ja Humby and is set in a carnival with a wall-of-death cycling by Charlie Steen.

Steen shared this about the song: “This is about who we are. Our live shows aren’t performance art, they’re direct, confrontational and raw. That’s always been the root of us. We live in crazy times. But it’s not about ‘Poor me.’ It’s about ‘Fuck you’.”

Shame shared this about the song/album via a press release: “”Cutthroat” is a joyride. It’s for the inexperienced driver. The one who wants to go fast for no reason other than it’s fun. It’s driven by hunger. Hunger for something better. For something you’ve been told you don’t deserve. It’s primal. It’s raw. It’s unapologetic. It’s the person who turns up to the party uninvited. ’Cause when you’ve been pushed down, there’s nowhere to go but up. When you ain’t got nothing, you ain’t got nothing to lose.”

Sudan Archives – “DEAD”

Sudan Archives has shared a new single, “DEAD”, out now via Stones Throw.

The video for the song was directed by Jonah Haber and the song is described as “orchestral Black dance music.”

Ethel Cain – “Nettles”

Ethel Cain has shared the first single, “Nettles”, off her upcoming album “Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You” out in August.

Ethel Cain shared this about the song via a press release: “This song and the last track on the record were both written the same week, the very first week I moved into the house in Alabama where I finished Preacher’s Daughter. In similar fashion to Preacher’s Daughter (specifically “A House in Nebraska” and “Strangers”), I wrote what essentially became the beginning and end of the story without realizing it. What were originally just little vignettes of emotion I was feeling at the time ultimately became the tentpoles for a larger narrative. ‘Nettles’ became a dream of losing the one you love, asking them to reassure you that it won’t come true and to dream, instead, of all the time you’ll have together as you grow old side by side. Every once in a blue moon, it feels good to slough off the macabre and to simply let love be.”

Broken Social Scene – “It’s All Gonna Break”

Broken Social Scene have released the documentary “It’s All Gonna Break” which was directed by Stephen Chung.

Mixing footage from the band’s formative years with current-day interviews, filmmaker Stephen Chung chronicles their genesis, from Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning’s early projects to their initial meeting, the slow absorption of players into the BSS orbit, and their eventual explosion into international indie rock stars.

There is a version of “It’s All Gonna Break” that has existed since 2007. Chung presented a rough cut to the band for consideration, but they ultimately rejected it. There wasn’t enough of a story they said. Chung uses that rejection as a framing device. Like everyone in the BSS orbit, Chung was as much of a friend as he was a chronicler of the band, and the rejection weighed heavily on him for years. It was only through his determination to resurrect the project, this time with the benefit of some distance, that all this footage saw the light of day.

Nilüfer Yanya – “Where To Look”

Nilüfer Yanya has shared the second single, “Where To Look”, off her upcoming EP “Dancing Shoes” out June 2nd via Ninja Tune.

TRACKLIST:

1. Either Way
2. Where To Look
3. Treason
4. Cold Heart

Nilüfer Yanya shared this about the song: “We started writing this song for the album, but it was tricky to get it off the ground at that time. Then when we came back from tour, it suddenly clicked. Melodically it’s one of my favourite things ever. Very glad I was able to give it the time and breathing space that it needed.”

Pulp – “Grown Ups”

Pulp have shared the third single, “Grown Ups”, off their upcoming album “More” that was just released via Rough Trade.

Jarvis Cocker shares this about the album’s release via a press release: “The day an album is released to the public is a very special day. The music changes from being something owned only by the band to something that can be owned by anyone, it can become part of people’s lives. It’s magic.”
