Magnolia Pictures have announced that they have acquired U.S. rights to “IT’S NEVER OVER: JEFF BUCKLEY”, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg (DELIVERUS FROM EVIL, PHOENIX RISING, WEST OF MEMPHIS), from Topic Studios & Fremantle.
From a press release the tag shared for the film says this: “The documentary will cover the life of the rising young star with an otherworldly voice and boundary- pushing artistry, who left the 90s music world reeling when he died suddenly, at age 30, after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album Grace. Told through never- before-seen footage from Buckley’s archives and intimate accounts from his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, Jeff’s former bandmates, including Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, and luminaries like Ben Harper and Aimee Mann.”
Amy Berg shared this about the film: “Tve spent practically my entire career trying to make this film which takes a very intimate look at one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time. I’m so excited Magnolia and HBO have come on board to share this film with the world and give old fans and new audiences a chance to experience Jeff from this unique vantage point. I couldn’t imagine a better team to roll this into the World!”
Jack White has shared a video for the song “Archbishop Harold Holmes” off his album “No Name” that was released via Third Man Records.
The video for the song was directed by Gilbert Trejo. The video also features cameos from Sami Perez (Cherry Glazer), Staz Lindes(the Paranoyds), Misha Lindes (Sadgirl) and Arrow de Wilde (Starcrawler).
John C. Reilly shared this about the song and video: “Jack has such a specific aesthetic with his colors and with the stuff he’s interested in. It was almost like doing a Prince video for Prince. I thought it should be a direct appeal to people from this preacher. I knew Jack was really into electricity and Nikola Tesla. He does a lot of electric design for amplifiers and guitars, and it’s a passion of his. I was like, What if this person’s not a very reliable narrator? That’s why we came up with the concept of he’s a total lunatic in an asylum, and all these electrical things he’s been imagining are all related to his experiences with his treatments in the hospital,”
The Dears have shared a new single, “Babe, We’ll Find A Way”, out now on their new label Next Door Records.
Murray Lightburn shared this about the song: “The music came down all at once, strings, guitar and melodies. It was so strong and vivid. It pines for the breakthrough, we know it’s there! It’s so tangible. When that happens, inner strength takes over. There’s a motivation, a reason to get out of bed. You can feel the sun on your face and maybe a little later a smile will take over.”
Eric Hilton has shared a new single, “L’Ocean”, off his upcoming album “Midnight Ragas” out June 20th via Montserrat House Music.
The music video for “L’Ocean” was directed, filmed and edited by Puma Ptah.
A press release was shared with this to say about the album: “‘Midnight Ragas’ is a new album by the downtempo electronic music producer, with vocal contributions by longtime collaborators Natalia Clavier and Puma Ptah, along with newer recruit Kristina Westernik-Dandridge. And while the tracks are all new Eric Hilton recordings, the album sounds like a killer compilation record, with shifting tempos, moods, vocalists, and languages across twelve tracks. The vintage age of mix CDs may be long over, but listen to Midnight Ragas and you’ll think it never left.”
Eric Hilton added this: “I loved compilations back in the day. You bought them to get turned on to new sounds, or you liked the artist compiling it. ‘Midnight Ragas’ was not conceptualized as a compilation; the album is a moment of eclecticism.”
Kim Gordon has shared the song, “Bye Bye 25!”, as an anti-Trump protest song. Also, proceeds from the sale of “Bye Bye 25!” will be donated to reproductive rights nonprofit Noise for Now.
The video for the song was co-directed by Kim Gordon and Vice Cooler. And it has Gordon in black and white showcasing her lyrics and walking through a construction area.
Kim Gordon shared this about the song: “Justin Raisen (producer) had this idea to redo ‘Bye Bye’ starting at the end of the song. When I was thinking of lyric ideas, it occurred to me to use words taken from a site that had all the words that Trump has essentially banned, meaning any grant or piece of a project or proposal for research that includes any of those words would be immediately disregarded or “cancelled.” I guess Trump does believe in cancel culture, because he is literally trying to cancel culture.”
Jehnny Beth has shared the second single, “Obsession”, off her upcoming album “You Heartbreaker, You” out August 29th via Fiction Records.
The video for the song was directed by Johnny Hostile and Jehnny Beth.
Jehnny Beth shared this about the song: “‘Obsession’ is the first song Johnny and I wrote together for this album. The lyrics ‘you heartbreaker, you’ gave the title to the album but, more than that, the song gave the album its tone. It is probably one of the most detailed tracks on the record. The song obviously deals with the subject of primal obsession. It has this spiralling repetitive tension to the point of explosion, going from a whispered confession to a gnarly scream in the blink of an eye, which was fun to make, imagine Tricky and Jonathan Davis making a song with Adam Jones from Tool! In my head anyway.”
Shame have shared the first single, “Cutthroat”, off their upcoming album by the same name out September 5th via Dead Oceans.
TRACKLIST: 1. Cutthroat 2. Cowards Around 3. Quiet Life 4. Nothing Better 5. Plaster 6. Spartak 7. To and Fro 8. Lampião 9. After Party 10. Screwdriver 11. Packshot 12. Axis of Evil
The video was directed by Ja Humby and is set in a carnival with a wall-of-death cycling by Charlie Steen.
Steen shared this about the song: “This is about who we are. Our live shows aren’t performance art, they’re direct, confrontational and raw. That’s always been the root of us. We live in crazy times. But it’s not about ‘Poor me.’ It’s about ‘Fuck you’.”
Shame shared this about the song/album via a press release: “”Cutthroat” is a joyride. It’s for the inexperienced driver. The one who wants to go fast for no reason other than it’s fun. It’s driven by hunger. Hunger for something better. For something you’ve been told you don’t deserve. It’s primal. It’s raw. It’s unapologetic. It’s the person who turns up to the party uninvited. ’Cause when you’ve been pushed down, there’s nowhere to go but up. When you ain’t got nothing, you ain’t got nothing to lose.”
