I tapped into that initial energy that put my journey as a musician into motion when I started touring at 17 years old, the first sparks that sent me into the unknown, and not so much trusting, but knowing that this is my path. This record is an homage to the radical hope that got me to where I am now.”

And HE’s talking ‘bout Harry Houdini – in the album title, anyway, not sure about anywhere else. So, six years since his last LP, the all-acoustic A Broke Moon Rises, Papa M rolls into the shred zone, buns glazing, with his fifth full length in 25 years of Papa M-itude! Six fat-assed songs – a couple ballads, yeah, but mostly real all-out groovers here.”

Collaborators and friends shared this about the album.

Josh “Deakin” Dibb: “Working on this record felt like a sacred and warm return. Noah and I first started putting music down to multitrack cassette in 1991. 32 years later and working in the same fashion, two friends alone in a room searching for sounds and feelings that move us, I am very proud of what we created together. Sinister Grift feels like the songwriter I’ve known for over 30 years but also feels like some sort of new chapter for Noah. Couldn’t be more proud of the result.”

Daniel Lopatin: “A classic rock dream that ebbs beautifully into a little bit of a nightmare.”

Jessica Pratt: “On Sinister Grift, Panda Bear cuts a lone figure, bracing himself against the winds of fortune and calamity. Noah’s pure and poignant lamentations are less elusive this time around, as though our narrator has awoken from a sobering dream. Singing a familiar round on an imperiled path, Panda Bear presents a set of torch songs conveying hard-fought wisdom, buoyant despite the load they bear.”

Maria Reis: “Noah has the ability to be incredibly concise in his songwriting. Feels like every idea, every word and every sound is there to serve a purpose – the purpose being the actual song. Sinister Grift has that all-timer feel to it, as if the songs have been around for decades and at the same time full of fresh new light as though they’re pointing forward.”

DJ Falcon: “In these dark times we all need music to get through life. Panda Bear has the magic, his voice feels like the medicine to heal this world. Noah has given us Sinister Grift, I feel relaxed and the beach doesn’t feel far away. Merci Noah for the gift.”

Alan Braxe: “Sinister Grift is a beautiful album. Everything sounds authentic and natural, as if it has always existed and will continue to do so. True and timeless. Thank you Noah.”

Panda Bear will be out on tour to support this album and in support of Toro y Moi in some cities.

10. One of These Days (I’m Gonna Spend the Whole Night With You)
11. Is My Living In Vain?
12. Our Home

Will Oldham shared this about the song and album: “I’ve made records with friends, collaborative records like The Brave and the Bold with Tortoise; the two Superwolf records with Matt Sweeney; The Wonder Show of the World with Emmett Kelly; Get on Jolly with Mick Turner. These collaborators get top billing because that’s how this business works. This record, The Purple Bird, is similarly a collaborative effort but the collaborator is the producer, David Ferguson. He’s a giant of a man, an epic musical force, a dear friend. Our work together on this record was the result of years of sharing hard times and great joys, songs and stories, of making music together and apart. There’s a lot of trust in this record on Ferg’s part and on mine, and the trust was hard- and well-earned. When I listen to the record, oftentimes I can’t help but laugh in wonder that life allowed me to participate in such a thing.”

The video for the song was directed by Michael Cullen.

Benjamin Booker – “LWA IN THE TRAILER PARK”

09 “SHOW AND TELL”
10 “HEAVY ON MY MIND”
11 “HOPE FOR THE NIGHT”

Benjamin Booker shared this about the song: “I felt particularly connected to Paul Schrader’s work making this album. Like several of his movies, I wanted to look at a troubled character on the edge, reaching for transcendence. Now that I’m working on a series of connected videos, Schrader has had an influence in that arena as well, along with Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Samourai and Charles Burnett’s Killer Of Sheep.”

The album was produced with Kenny Segal who will be supporting Benjamin Booker on his upcoming tour. Dates below.
