Bryce Dessner shared this about the album: “Writing a solo piece for me is always a great challenge and joy, as you have all the personality and talent of the player plus the physicality and resonance of the solo instrument, a bit like a Shakespearean monologue. These solo pieces for violin, viola, cello, harp, percussion, guitar and piano represent many years of my compositional process. When I began composing, I mainly wrote solo pieces for myself to play and I have always loved unaccompanied instrumental music, including the solo Bach lute and cello suites and the Renaissance lute fantasies of John Dowland, which I used to play myself on the classical guitar. These pieces of mine are often written like poems, where the musical language itself dictates the form and evolution of the piece, and were often opportunities for me to explore more deeply my relationship to the instruments they were composed for. They also represent in each case close collaborative relationships and friendships I have been very lucky to develop with the incredible musicians who play them. Katia, Pekka, Anastasia, Nadia, Lavinia and Colin are all exceptional artists who brought so much of their amazing talent to these recordings.”

As he recalls it, the light became the lilt of Chrystabell’s voice and revealed a secret to him. It is from these mysterious convergences of light and sound, day and night, starry sky and black forest that Chrystabell and David’s collaboration has continued to blossom.”

Mala Leche (Spanish: Bad Milk) is 16 tracks of beats and bars, vocals provided by some of the hip-hop artists at the very top of his own, personal home listening lists and interludes that throw back and forth through eras and genres in sometimes playful, occasionally awakeningly abrasive styles.

Jimi Goodwin shared this about some of the collaborations, this about Pan: “I like clever wordsmiths, not just cusses and Pan is exactly that kind of artist. He’s The Don. Full respect to him, he got fed up with the jazz scene he was part of, frustrated by the bullshit. He’s gone and called it out and done his own thing. You’ve got to admire that.”

Regarding Homeboy Sandman: “I was in New York in 2017, just exploring the city on my own. One day I’d been in touch with Homeboy Sandman, just exchanging messages, just asking if I could send him my beats. Same day, totally by chance, I come out of the subway and bump right into him! Whatever the ways of contacting these rappers I’ve been able to put together my dream team.”

About Jason Williamson he shared: “We’ve never met in person, but we’re on the phone to each other all the time. I was blown away by what he’s done on ‘Blood Red Dead’. It’s totally ‘him’. I admire people who are just like ‘fuck you!’ and working and living with that sense of conviction. Just people who can completely be themselves.”

Dirty Three – “Love Changes Everything”

Dirty Three have shared the second single,  “Love Changes Everything II” off their new album, “Love Changes Everything”, out June 28th via Drag City / Bella Union.

TRACKLIST:
1. Love changes everything I
2. Love changes everything II
3. Love changes everything III
4. Love changes everything IV
5. Love changes everything V
6. Love changes everything VI

Via a press release this was shared: “Emerging once again from the unending waves crashing upon our fragile time-craft (adrift on the eternal ocean and taking on water). Dirty Three are a) back, b) tangled in seaweed, rank with saltwater and possessed of three rather ominous thousand-mile stares (at least!), and c) not wasting another minute, as nothing is guaranteed. For the first album in over a decade (yes it’s been 12 years since 2012’s “Toward The Low Sun”) they flew in, got together and started playing. End of story. What else is there to say or do but that? Music is their language, their true love.; they never stop listening. And like the label says, “Love Changes Everything “.”

FACS – “North America Endless” b/w “Take Me To Your Heart”

FACS have shared a new 7″ with the songs “North America Endless” on the A side and the Eurythmics cover of “Take Me To Your Heart on the B Side out now via Sub Pop.

The video for the song was directed by Joshua Ford.

Brian Case shared this about “North America Endless”: “We had been talking a lot about how to incorporate melody in a new way with the material we were starting to write after Still Life In Decay, and this was one of the first experiments with that. I had this inverted Polvo thing I had been playing around with that Jonathan married to a really nice Frippy sustained lead, and it kind of just wrote itself. Lyrically, it’s about the dissociation needed to live in this country and the powerlessness that can bring. Noah’s beat at the end of the song is one of my favorites from him.”

Case shared this about “Take Me To Your Heart”: “The song is a band favorite, we’ve been kicking around a version of this since we first started FACS, but for some reason just got around to completing it now. This song has a lot of elements we keep in focus when we write – repetition, space, off-the-grid melodies, and mantra-like lyrics that can be construed in a few ways based on what perspective you view them from.”

Psychic Graveyard – “Sword Through My Neck”

Psychic Graveyard have shared a new single, “Sword Through My Neck”, off their upcoming album “Wilting” out June 7th via Artoffact Records.

Eric Paul shared this about the song: “I have a son who is on the autism spectrum, so I’m part of a support group for parents like me. We support each other as we navigate the challenges of ASD. The song’s lyrics draw inspiration from discussions within our group. So, grab a Styrofoam cup of coffee, pull up a folding chair, and dive into “Sword Through My Neck.””

Swami & The Bed Of Nails – “Privacy”

Swami & The Bed Of Nails have shared a new single, “Privacy”, off their upcoming debut album “All Of This Awaits You” out August 2nd via Swami Records.

02. Harbor Freight
03. Ketchup, Mustard and Relish
04. Teen Hate
05. Privacy
06. Lost In Bermondsey
07. Shock And Awe
08. Don’t Wait
09. Beware The Halo

The video for the song was directed by David Da Cruz.

John Reis shared this about the album: “We were all very excited about the initial recordings of the Hot Snakes (2023) album, and the songs set the bar high. As I continued writing, I started to notice some songs would likely have an eventual home on a different record of some kind. This music branched off and I figured I’d revisit it sometime in the years to come with 2024 being an exciting year for Hot Snakes. Lots of good times planned ahead. When Rick [Froberg] suddenly passed, I was completely heartbroken and shellshocked. The loss continues to be something I have trouble navigating. This record is the songs of that tributary. In November 2023, I decided to finish it and turn it into something. At the time I felt paralyzed and confused so I tried to un-paralyze myself by surrounding myself with friends, making something out of nothing, playing music which felt timely to me, and make plans. The best plan seemed to consist of me jumping back on guitar, doing some yelling and singing, getting in the van and visiting the many villages and selling my wares.”

Beth Gibbons – “Lost Changes”

Beth Gibbons has released the third single, “Lost Changes”, off her upcoming album “Lives Outgrown”.

The video for the song was directed by photographer Juno Calypso in her directorial debut.

Beth Gibbons shared this about the album: “People started dying. When you’re young, you never know the endings, you don’t know how it’s going to pan out. You think: we’re going to get beyond this. It’s going to get better. Some endings are hard to digest. Now I’ve come out of the other end, I just think, you’ve got to be brave.”
