L7 have announced that they’re releasing a new single titled “Cooler Than Mars” out September 12th. The single will be released as a limited edition four pack flexi-disc.

Zach Condon shared this about the song: “I liked that this song struck a balance between the feelings of acceptance, hope and giving up. The lyric came from a covid-times lament that rolled effortlessly into a kind of short lullaby. The instruments were somewhat unusual for me at the time, having dusted off a baritone uke I never used before to join the album’s primary instruments of either pump or church organ and the modular synthesizer as percussion and bass.”
Beirut shared this about the album: “During my time in Hadsel, I worked hard on the music, lost in a trance and stumbling blindly through my own mental collapse that I had been pushing aside since I was a teenager. It came and rang me like a bell. I was left agonizing many things past and present while the beauty of the nature, the northern lights and fearsome storms played an awesome show around me. The few hours of light would expose the unfathomable beauty of the mountains and the fjords, and the hours-long twilights would fill me with subdued excitement. I’d like to believe that scenery is somehow present in the music.”

Neil Halstead shared this about the song: “‘Alife’ is one of the first tunes we finished for the record. Shawn Everett did a really nice job with the mix. We tried so many times to figure out a good mix by ourselves and couldn’t do it… it sort of had us beaten until Shawn stepped in. We decided if he could handle that one he could probably do the whole record. Our friend Jake Nelson did a really nice animation for this song; it takes some of the imagery from the artwork and digs a little deeper into that.”
The band will start a tour in the USofA in late September that will run through mid October, most of the dates are already sold out.
The trailer for the documentary on the Birthday Party titled “Mutiny In Heaven” is here. The film is produced by Wim Wenders and Mick Harvey and directed by Ian White.
The synopsis of the documentary reads like this: “Narrated exclusively by the original band members, Mutiny in Heaven delves deep into a band’s psyche, chronicling how Nick Cave and his school friends startled audiences with their confrontational performances, primal screams, outlaw gothic horror, and anarchic lifestyle. The film will be rolled out city by city as if on tour and the dates for each of them are below.

Andy McCluskey shared this about the video: “When times are hard there is a tendency for governments to look at cutting funding for creativity, just at the moment when the arts are most needed to nourish our souls. I am a huge lover of visual arts, especially mid-20th century movements. I reference them often in my titles and lyrics. The song…is a metaphor for strength and artist passion in the face of criticism and adversity.”
Talking about the title for the album, and of course the title track, McCluskey shared this: “The title is derived from an Oskar Schlemmer painting. He taught at Bauhaus, and created the amazing futuristic costumes for The Triadic Ballet, which is referenced in the song.”

A video for Ryan Gosling’s song “I’m Just Ken” from the movie “Barbie” has been released.
The video shows the behind-the-scenes at Ryan Gosling and his Barbie castmates’ performance of the most likely to be nominated song “I’m Just Ken.”
Ryan Gosling has already released one album with his band Dead Man’s Bones back in 2009 on ANTI- records. The video features all of the Ken’s, Josh Freese, Wolfgang Van Halen and Slash as well as multiple reaction shots of Greta Gerwig.
Future Islands have released a new single, “Deep In The Night “, which is out now via 4AD.
The video for the song was directed by Albert Birney.
The band is currently on tour in the UK and with some select dates around Europe.

He is a natural. He has the technical side of recording down. Which I do not. So it’s the definition of teamwork. I bring in the songs and he knows exactly how to get the right sounds, when you are recording with one of your best friends in his home studio it’s effortless, stressless and magical.”
