Planet B nights: The Festival Of Dead Deer

By: Alfredo Tellez/Edith Morales

20 years in the making, The Festival Of Dead Deer made their return to the stage thanks to Planet B & Three One G nights presented at Blonde Bar.
Silent were also on the bill to make this night even better.

The Festival of Dead Deer came out ready to prove that 20 years away from the stage was not enough not diminish the power and importance of “The Many Faces of Mental Illness“, their seminal album released via Three One G records.
Dylan Gordon, Chris Hathwell & Michael Crain got together, rehearsed and decided that they were going to do at least 2 (two) shows, one in San Diego and the other at the Echo in Los Angeles, CA on Friday April 7th.

Song after song they were building a certain anxiety up. Song after song they were delivering one of the best sets of live music I have ever witnessed. No, this is not lip service. If you were not there it might be a little difficult to fully grasp why the adulation to this particular show. They just were…

Here is the setlist:

Double Dare
In fifty words or less
Monotones
Episodes
Basura Blanca
My name’s explicit
New song!
Stagnant
Tom Violence
Rated Are
The Coming of going
2nd New song!
What makes sense
Limited edition of zero
Inner planetary reasoning

Silent served as the opening act. And they were kind enough to preview 2 songs from what their new album might be. If at this point you have not seen them live you’re doing yourself a disservice. For lack of better words I will go out to say that they’re my favorite new band around. No, I don’t mean local band. No, I don’t mean band where a friend plays. No, I certainly don’t mean a band that was recommended by someone. I mean my favorite band because the album they released last year, “A century of abuse” was one of the best albums from 2016. I mean my favorite band because each time I get to see them live, their show and performance gets better, they sound louder and they still get to surprise me with something new in their intense performance.

Mike Patton joins Dead Cross

These news are better than black coffee…

dead-cross

From Ipecac Recordings
“Here’s some news to get your Monday morning going: Mike Patton joins Dead Cross, new album on Ipecac in 2017!
Dead Cross, the Southern California outfit featuring Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits), Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox, Head Wound City) and Michael Crain (Retox, Festival of Dead Deer), have added Mike Patton as the band’s singer.

Lombardo is the guest drummer on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week (Dec. 12 to 15).”

We had the chance to see Dead Cross play their first show last year, Dec. 1st. at Casbah San Diego, you can see photos from that show on our Facebook page.
We can’t wait to listen to the album and see them perform live again, now with Mike Patton, is going to be insane.

David Bowie – I Can’t Give Everything Away

David Bowie “I Can’t Give Everything Away”, from the album ‘Blackstar’.

Iggy Pop – Sunday

What a Sunday!
Here is Iggy Pop‘s latest video from the song “Sunday”, off the album ‘Post Pop Depression’.

This song reminds us a little bit of David Bowie‘s “Blackout”, from ‘Heroes’.

Dead Cross – We’ll Sleep When They’re Dead

Dead Cross are Dave Lombardo, Justin Pearson, Gabe Serbian and Michael Crain.
Dead Cross emerged out of a series of unlikely happenstance, fallen-through plans, and last-minute musical experimentation. Schemed up in the LA recording studio of Ross Robinson, Michael Crain, Justin Pearson, and Dave Lombardo initially concocted the idea of a collaboration with only weeks to go before what would be their first shows. Shows which were essentially scheduled before the band’s full formation—before it was even named, and without a shred of material written.” – threeoneg.com

Here is “We’ll Sleep When They’re Dead”, first official track from their upcoming album, which is still being worked on by the band and Ross Robinson.

Charly García – Nos siguen pegando abajo

The great Charly García (64), he is one of the greatest rock icons from Argentina, this song is titled “Nos siguen pegando abajo”, (they keep hitting us down there), from the album ‘Clics Modernos’, (Modern clicks).
Grande Charly!
