R.E.M. at the BBC

R.E.M., one of our all time favorite bands/musicians/artists just released a box set of their live and in-studio performances at the BBC.
“R.E.M. grew up with the BBC, and this historic relationship is lovingly celebrated across an incredible collection that beautifully illustrates the career trajectory of one of modern music’s greatest bands. The collection—available as a super-deluxe edition 8-CD/1-DVD box set, as well as 2-CD, 2-LP and digital formats—comprises a treasure trove of rare and unreleased live and studio recordings culled from the BBC and band archives. This is a must-have collection for R.E.M. fans and an authoritative introduction for newcomers. In-studio performances featured in the 8-CD/1-DVD box set include a John Peel Session (1998), Drivetime and Mark and Lard appearances (2003) and a glorious Radio 1 Live Lounge performance (2008). Live broadcasts include a rough-and-tumble show from Nottingham’s Rock City (1984), the stunning 1995 Milton Keynes Monster Tour (their first after a six-year break), a blistering 1999 Glastonbury headline set and an invitation-only 2004 show at London’s St James’s Church.”

Normal People
I see guys at night drinking in bars, Talking to girls and driving cars. They heard about this place from a magazine, One of their best friends has been. They all laugh and joke like there’s nothing wrong, Like they are right where they belong. She met a guy, they went on a date, she liked him, But it was getting late. He called again, but she let it ring. She needs a little more time to think. She reads the paper on the train, a guy stares the entire way. He got a job right out of school, his place is small, But it has a pool. It’s just a couple of stops away, He feels a sadness that he can’t explain. It’s hard for him to have fun – his mother died when he was young. Yesterday I had a life, I had a home, I wore a smile to sell my soul. My tie was blue and my shirt was white, so why can’t I figure out How to feel alright? I know this could be mine again, If you would just tell me what I need to change. I’ve seen enough, I’ll never go back, I’ll never get my life back on track. They all say so much, but say nothing at all, The world is so big and I feel so fucking small. And then I think to myself and sigh, how can you really give up If you never tried? One day I called in sick, but I was right outside, I just sat down on a bench and cried. I saw this child Playing in the street, his whole life right there under his feet. I knew that what you do, that’s all there is, but then I went Upstairs and sat down at my desk. I don’t fit in, but I don’t feel bad, You can’t miss a feeling that you never had. I know it’s a sham, But it seemed so real, that what I had to be, isn’t who I am. The man I see, he would never dream, I just took the life They handed me. I remember this like it was yesterday, Even though it now seems so far away I’ve learned much more than he’ll ever know, So what do we do now, and where do we go?

Melvins – Don’t forget to breathe

“Don’t forget to breathe” is one of our favorite songs off the Melvins new album ‘Pinkus abortion technician‘, available via Ipecac Recordings.

Directed by Ava Hazelmyer “We’re very excited to have a video for our song ‘Don’t Forget To Breathe,” directed by the hyper-talented Ava Hazelmyer. Hopefully there will be more collaborations with her in the future,” said Buzz Osborne. “We can’t wait for people to hear Pinkus Abortion Technician and for them to see both of these killer bassists on our upcoming tours!” “I like to make scenes devoid of context or overt meaning, explained Hazelmyer. “I like taking everyday things and dropping them into an absurd setting. I like the idea of something being experienced without any preconceived notions or connections.”
The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers).

Papa M – A broke moon rises

“Following his phoenix-like rise from the ashes in late 2016, Papa M strikes back with just four acoustic guitars and a bit of drums. Naturally, it’s completely spellbinding and hypnotizing!” – Drag City Records.
