R.E.M. at the BBC

R.E.M., one of our all time favorite bands/musicians/artists just released a box set of their live and in-studio performances at the BBC.
“R.E.M. grew up with the BBC, and this historic relationship is lovingly celebrated across an incredible collection that beautifully illustrates the career trajectory of one of modern music’s greatest bands. The collection—available as a super-deluxe edition 8-CD/1-DVD box set, as well as 2-CD, 2-LP and digital formats—comprises a treasure trove of rare and unreleased live and studio recordings culled from the BBC and band archives. This is a must-have collection for R.E.M. fans and an authoritative introduction for newcomers. In-studio performances featured in the 8-CD/1-DVD box set include a John Peel Session (1998), Drivetime and Mark and Lard appearances (2003) and a glorious Radio 1 Live Lounge performance (2008). Live broadcasts include a rough-and-tumble show from Nottingham’s Rock City (1984), the stunning 1995 Milton Keynes Monster Tour (their first after a six-year break), a blistering 1999 Glastonbury headline set and an invitation-only 2004 show at London’s St James’s Church.”

Dead Cross – Church of the motherfuckers (Planet B remix)

Dead Cross “Church of the Motherfuckers” Planet B remix from the recently released self-titled EP, available now Ipecac Recordings.

Planet B is the project from Dead Cross bassist  Justin Pearson and Luke Henshaw (Sonido de la Frontera). The duo’s music lays somewhere just out of reach of genre, with aesthetics rooted in hip hop, hardcore punk, turntablism and ’70s/’80s horror movie soundtracks, all of which influenced this remix.

“This is meant to be an extension to the original ‘Church of the Motherfuckers’ video,” explains Justin Pearson of the Israel Henshaw and Jay Strickland directed clip. “Perhaps an interpretation but a realistic view or organized religion in the real world, and in modern times, which is unfortunate. Are well free in this world? This is Jesus Christ, this is religion.”

Video directed by Israel Henshaw and Jay Strickland. Edited by Jay Strickland.
Starring Zoe Coffey and John Brady

Very proud moment for us at I think I better follow you around, to see our daughter Zoe kicking ass in this video.

Low Volts in Tijuana

Melvins – Don’t forget to breathe

“Don’t forget to breathe” is one of our favorite songs off the Melvins new album ‘Pinkus abortion technician‘, available via Ipecac Recordings.

Directed by Ava Hazelmyer “We’re very excited to have a video for our song ‘Don’t Forget To Breathe,” directed by the hyper-talented Ava Hazelmyer. Hopefully there will be more collaborations with her in the future,” said Buzz Osborne. “We can’t wait for people to hear Pinkus Abortion Technician and for them to see both of these killer bassists on our upcoming tours!” “I like to make scenes devoid of context or overt meaning, explained Hazelmyer. “I like taking everyday things and dropping them into an absurd setting. I like the idea of something being experienced without any preconceived notions or connections.”
The eight-song album is the band’s first to feature two bass tracks on every song, with the bass players being Steve McDonald (Redd Kross, OFF!) and Jeff Pinkus (Butthole Surfers).
