i think i better follow you around

Alfredo & Edeath, are a couple of music lovers who met later in life but grew up loving almost the same bands and hating others but always listening to music, old and new, and apart from collecting vinyl and books and going to see every good band coming to town, (or a few miles away), got together and created "I think i better follow you around", a website/music blog, where they share all the music they like and help promote upcoming concerts, local bands from San Diego and Tijuana and amazing artists from around the world. I think I better follow you around is an independent project.

Crocodiles at Moustache Bar

Last Saturday night Crocodiles played at Moustache Bar, in Tijuana, with AJ Davila.
Also on the bill for the night were Channel (Burger Records) and local band Some Kind Of Lizard.

Some Kind Of Lizard opened the show.

Afterwards it was time for Channel to take the stage.  IMG_0668_1.jpg

AJ Davila’s set was probably the one we enjoyed the most. His backup band were the Crocodiles themselves, and AJ Dávila came out swinging and did not stop until his set was finished. He looked like he was singing from his heart and performing with everything he had. He was charismatic and playful with the very receptive audience.

At one point one of Crocodile’s guitars popped a string and needed a spare, at this point is important to notice that Some Kind Of Lizard were kind enough to lend them one while the other got fixed.

The time for Crocodiles to take the stage came. And they came out to play for an audience that was very eager to listen to them. And while some danced, others sang and some more were trying to capture a moment with a picture, nonetheless everyone was connecting with the band in their own way.
They played a variety of new and old songs, but the crowd’s favorite was “I wanna kill”.

Due to the relentless rain, the show was moved to the second floor in the venue and it was a much better option sound wise than having it outside, not so much for the rain but because of the audio.
Another thing to point out is that at times, (most of it), the crowd felt bland, like they did not know how to react to the band that was performing in front of them. It was almost like they were just standing there waiting for some sort of intervention or direction as to what to do and when to start enjoying the music.

Thank you to  Carolina Rodríguez for providing us with additional photography.

Flying Lotus – Kuso

Here is the trailer for the film directed by Steve Ellison, aka Flying Lotus.

“Broadcasting through a makeshift network of discarded televisions, Kuso is tangled up in the aftermath of Los Angeles’ worst quake nightmare. Travel between screens and between aftershocks into the twisted lives of the survived.”

The Lemon Twigs at the Casbah

The Lemon Twigs (4AD) played the Casbah last night and it was one hell of a show.

It felt like being transported sonically back to 1973 (or some year around that). The D’Addario brothers came out melodies a blazing and they did not disappoint one bit. The first half of the show consisted of Brian fronting the band and it was some sort of juxtaposing at some point almost 3 different bands from the early 70’s AND still managing to sound original and most importantly genuine in this era of fake sounding bands.

Then the transition from guitar to drums and drums to guitar occurred and after the brothers switched places the show took a slight turn, the volume became a little bit louder and the glam rock started pouring out of the speakers.

Now, I will refrain from using the comparisons as to whom they sounded like because that wouldn’t be fair to anyone, not the band’s mentioned and surely not the Lemon Twigs. What I can say is that you could feel and witness the energy that was being poured from every band member, and remember they still have a few albums to go and grow their sound.

Here’s to hoping they do a round 2 on their tour and come back to San Diego. They’ll be playing some of the major festivals around like Coachella and Fuji Rock and we’re pretty sure that with their upcoming tour in the UK big things will be in their near future.

Jonny Greenwood’s new film score

Paul Tomas Anderson’s new film started shooting recently with Daniel Day Lewis slated to star in the auteur film. Now, typically that would be news enough to get any film lover excited, but, into that mix you add Jonny Greenwood and all of a sudden you have (certain) Radiohead fans and film score enthusiasts doubly excited. The reason being that Jonny Greenwood’s film scores for PTA’s films “There Will Be Blood”, “The Master” and “Inherent Vice” are just spellbinding, mesmerizing and beautiful. The music works well on their own and they just add a new layer and another character to a movie that is already filled with some of the most memorable characters that have ever graced the screen.

For anyone who calls themselves a fan of cinema or a fan of film scores…I seem to lack the words to express the excitement that these news bring to my eyes and ears. After receiving Radiohead’s “A Moon Shaped Pool” just one year ago and now knowing that there will be more music form one our generations musical geniuses is just amazing. This might sound like a kiss up to both of these artists, but in reality is just being in awe of their artistry, each one in their respective field and is an amazing pairing that I honestly hope does not end after this film.

Their previous collaborations have been multiple videos for Radiohead’s latest release, the documentary “Junjun”, the aforementioned scores for PTA’s films, to name a few. Below is a short video of the London Contemporary Orchestra rehearsing one of the greatest scores of all time…
