Austin TV – “De La Orquídea Y De La Avispa”

Austin TV have woken from their slumber and released a new single, “De La Orquídea Y De La Avispa”, after almost 10 years away.

The band released a statement via their Instagram account that said: To all of us that male rhizome and love Austin TV. It’s been almost 9 years since our last concert. There aren’t enough words to express our thanks and gratitude for all the different ways that you’ve showed that you care and love us. Austin is alive and active thanks to you that have allowed our music to accompany you. In these last years a lot of things have happened. We’re well aware that Austin is more than a band, it’s an entity-spirit that exists and has existed no matter the circumstances. It has been said that the only constant is movement and Austin has not been the exception. We have mutated again…we want to let you know that at the beginning of this year, Mario Sanchez (Chavo), founding member of the band proposed to us to continue on with the band sans him, because he discovered that his place in music was no longer on stage. He wants to pursue his dream of becoming a professional in the music industry as a representative in Mexico of “CD Baby” and “Downtown Music Holdings”. Trying to be as crystal clear as possible with all of you we want to let you know that he has approved of this communication and has asked that we all respect his decision since he sincerely hopes that we all can continue to vibe together with Austin TV; that way honoring the fundamental idea of the band and the reason why we wear masks and uniforms. Because I’m this project no one is more important than the other. After questioning everything…Chiosan, Xnayer, Totore y Rata have decided to play again 🖤

Why come back? We’re doing it because life has taught us that in these years Austin and music saves us. We’ve gone thru deep processes of self knowledge, and working on our mental health both individually and collective. We decided to get together to play and compose because of our need to express everything that we’ve learned and grown throughout these years. We don’t have the exact words to describe what we feel, we have music. We also wanted to let you know how grateful we are to have coincided and to have connected to play and compose new music for Austin, Hector Fematt, who far from being new, is an old friend and an incredible guitarist. He has played with different bands like Canseco, Insite, Kill Aniston, Accidents, Javier Blake, Silver Rose, Bye Sami, Desmemoriado, A veces siempre, among others. We welcome and thank him for sharing part of his soul to this cause. We are really excited with this new chapter of Austin TV. We want to believe that “ALL OF US ARE PART OF A WHOLE”. We want to believe in the quantic consciousness, in the mycelium, in drawing maps, to be a rhizome like the orchid and the was. But above all we want to believe that in this constant becoming we will find meaning and expression for all of these emotions that unites us as persons. We are an instrumental band with a lot to say. Thank you for your understanding and for honoring the processes of Austin TV. We’ll be waiting in the instrumental rock and we promise you all of our love and all of ourselves. Your face doesn’t matter, you matter.

Something noteworthy that ties this announcement to the city of Tijuana is the fact that the band has been using in their new work and live set up pedals from the local company Paradox Effects.

Lastly, Austin TV have been the 1st band announced for next year’s Vive Latino festival in Mexico City.

This is probably going to be the best album I did. I think this one. I think ever since Piñata, I’ve been dropping classic albums, so I’m not going to stop right there. You know what I’m saying? Piñata, classic. Bandana was a classic. Alfredo is a classic. SSS, going to be the same thing. I leveled up on his album. It’s going to be more features. It’s a little more sauce on this one I would say. Alfredo, that was just me rapping with…shit, I barely wrote a fucking hook on Alfredo. I was just showing n***** they can’t rap better than me”.

Justin Pearson shared this about the release: “’Christian Missile Crisis’ takes an obvious jab at organized religion, NRA-holes who clearly compensate for their lack of masculinity by fixating on gun ownership and gun ‘rights,’ and the fact that a large enough amount of Americans have the inability to negotiate peace and prefer oppressing others.”

Accompanying the release of “Christian Missile Crisis,” is the launch of an online auction, in partnership with Fender, to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (San Diego chapter) and The Satanic Temple’s Religious Reproductive Rights Campaign. The fundraiser (https://go.rallyup.com/dcguitar), features two custom Fender Player Lead III guitars, one black, and one beige. Both guitars have been modified by The Black Moon Design with clear vehicle wrap grade vinyl decals featuring art from the band’s album. The band said, collectively: “In light of the recent loss of our ex-bandmate, comrade, brother, and all around amazing person Gabe Serbian, Ipecac Recordings and Three One G will donate all proceeds from the beige guitar to help suicide prevention awareness. All proceeds from the black guitar will go to help fight laws that do not promote the health and safety of individuals in relation to bodily autonomy.”

Gilla Band – “Post Ryan”

Gilla Band have shared the new single, “Post Ryan”, off their upcoming album “Most Normal” out October 7th via Rough Trade.

The video was directed by Michael Speed.

Dara Kiely (singer) shared this about it: “Our friend Ryan turned 30 during lockdown and we were asked by his mates to make a track for his birthday. We wrote and recorded ‘Happy Birthday Ryan’ (a hair metal attempt penned by our secret Hard Rock alias, The Whisky Guns). Right after that we came up with the bones of what is now known as ‘Post Ryan’. This probably took the longest time out of all the tracks. The words of the track were originally really silly. There’s was a line about wearing Christmas socks all year round. Stupid stuff. It didn’t really fit the tone. After messing around with the Electro Lobotomy and getting the second half of it figured out, I improvised a melody over it. The lads wanted me to get out of my comfort zone and write something really direct. This was the exact opposite of the approach we had for ‘The Talkies’. Felt very naked. I had to leave the room when I showed them my demo of the new vocals.”

The band will head out on their USofA tour:

Beak> – “Kosmik Musik”

Beak> have shared the music accompaniment to the graphic novel “Kosmik Musik” by artist Joe Currie and writer Ben Wheatley.

Kosmik Musik is melting pot of 2000ad, Metal Hurlant, Kirby tech, psychedelic 60s art, Doctor Who, Douglas Adams, Kraut Rock, Star Trek and Star Wars. A UK 70s English childhood basically.
The project comes with a sonic accompaniment by Beak> who have live dates on the horizon including Primavera Sound in LA.

Through a press statement this was shared: “Two years in the making Kosmik Musik is a collaboration between artist Joe Currie, writer Ben Wheatley and musical group Beak>, who worked closely with the artists to provide a musical accompaniment for the graphic novel. The audio is available digitally worldwide via Invada from September 23rd. Further details on the limited edition physical formats below. Ben and Joe met at art school in the 90s where they both were involved in a lot of comic book drawing and reading. It’s taken thirty years to finally get their acts together and create this book. In the meantime Joe has been sculpting and painting. Ben has been writing and directing films.

Taleen Kali – “Only Lovers Left Alive”

Taleen Kali has shared the new single/video, “Only Lovers Left Alive”, off her upcoming debut album out March 3rd, 2023 via Dum Dum Records.

The video was directed by Joe Rubinstein, and he shared this about it: “When Taleen asked me to create visuals for “Only Lovers Left Alive” I knew it had to be something dramatic, but it also had to have vampires! I recently picked up a scientific camera that is often used to film car crashes in test labs. I knew that if I combined a super-slow motion camera, vampires, and some fun stunt work we would have an amazing video. Close friend Marie Fink, of V10 Stunts, came on board. Marie has worked on films like The Dark Knight, Inception, Dunkirk, and most recently Star Wars Skeleton Crew.”

Taleen Kali shared this: ““Only Lovers Left Alive” is about finding connection despite all odds. I wrote this song while walking through the deserted streets of LA during the early pandemic. There was nobody in sight, I hadn’t seen another human being for days, and I imagined what would happen if there was only one other person left alive in the world. “Only Lovers Left Alive” is one of my favorite vampire movies of all time, so for the visual we wanted to create something special for spooky season that also pays homage to vampire tropes, plus a bloody twist at the end just in time for Halloween!”

Her US tour kicks off in October.

MorMor – “Semblance”

MorMor has announced the release of his debut album, “Semblance”, out November 4th.

He has also shared a new single, “Chasing Ghosts”, with a video created by Otto Tang.

MorMor shared this about the song: “”Chasing Ghosts” comes from an awareness that chasing momentary pleasures can become an end in itself. So much of what we race after disappears. The chasing of ghosts becomes an endless cycle.

The Semblance Tour kicks off this January. This is the beginning of a journey I would like to share with you”.
